2025 – DIVIA, dir. Dmytro Hreshko

Divia (2025) is a documentary by Ukrainian director Dmytro Hreshko that examines the catastrophic environmental impact of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. The film blends archival footage from before and during the war, including material from national parks such as “Sviati Hory” and “Oleshky Sands,” as well as Crimea and other reserves destroyed or occupied by Russian forces.

The film portrays how war transforms the harmony of nature into a fiery whirlwind that burns the land, forests, and all living things. Yet, with the arrival of spring, nature struggles to recover, though the scale of destruction leaves little hope for quick renewal.

The score was composed by Grammy Award–winning British composer and producer Sam Slater, known for his work on Chernobyl, Joker, and 20,000 Meters to Andriivka.

Divia was selected for the main competition at the 59th Karlovy Vary International Film Festival, underscoring its international recognition and significance in contemporary cinema. A co-production between Ukraine, Poland, and the Netherlands, the film was produced by Polina Herman and Hlib Lukianets.

Divia is a profound and emotionally charged work that raises vital questions about morality, truth, and the consequences of human actions in today’s world.
